is a Japanese term meaning ‘change for the better’ or ‘continuous improvement.’
“It is a Japanese business philosophy regarding the processes that continuously improve operations and involve all employees. KAIZEN sees improvement in productivity as a gradual and methodical process.”
So…. If we attempt to apply this philosophy to our [unpolished] personal lives seeing ourselves as employees of our own business; business defined as our daily routines, new projects and/or endeavors we aspire to successfully take on and also the capacity in which we manage whatever unknown is thrown our way, being mindful of KAIZEN and practicing it can help us to continually improve and manifest our greatest desires.
While making it to 2021 is certainly something to be celebrated, now more than ever we must continue to embrace the acceptance of change and be cognizant of the critical importance unity plays in our nation, let alone our global world for the greater good.
The KAIZEN approach lends itself perfectly to this notion with its five key elements:
Teamwork. Having a willingness to work together for a common goal. We all know the expression, “teamwork makes the dream work.” Focus less on ‘do as I say,’ and strive more for an approach of ‘how do we do it together?’ The ball keeps moving down the field when everyone readily shows up!
Personal Discipline. Be open to take responsibility for your part. Commit to believing the system is sound if you practice it; and then keep practicing. If you put in the time, those around you are inspired to do the same thus embodying the Teamwork element.
Improved Morale. Approaching potential hurdles with a glass is half full attitude is
half three-quarters the battle! Will yourself to see the bright side of any situation. You can if you will and you will if you do and if you do…. you’re destined to succeed!
Quality Circles. Surrounding yourself around like-minded people who are also striving to achieve similar goals improves your own momentum for success tenfold. The positive energy emanating between those in your quality circle becomes the sustainable food source for your soul. The more nourished your soul, the more your appetite grows to satiate the other elements of KAIZEN.
Suggestions For Improvement. Be humble enough not just to hear what others say, but to listen with intent. Having an openness for constructive criticism is essential for personal growth and for the betterment of the team.
JUST TO LET YOU KNOW…. As employees of our own business, that being the business of self growth and improvement, implementing these facets will actualize over time into being the best employee for yourself; and by doing so, investing in the “Business of You” will better the “Business of All,” hence KAIZEN! And let’s face it, a little change for the good would be a good change for all in 2021, don’t you think?
